During 30 minutes, seven members of the Sport Centre of Capoeira Angola, from Salvador (Bahia) gave in the evening an exhibition of dance and capoeira, to the rhythm of "angola", in the lobby of the Santos Dumont Airport, catching the attention of all that were there.

The group is going to Porto Alegre, where it will present a series of spectacles, under the auspices of the Department of Tourism of Bahia, that promotes in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul a party of bahian folclore.

CAPOEIRA FOR THE NATIVES OF RIO

Vicente Ferreira, better known as "Pastinha", who is said to be the older capoeirista of Bahia with his 60 [70 - velhosmestres.com], commands the boys, who yesterday showed themselves in the Santos Dumont Airport. The strange and exciting rhythms of their instruments got heated applauses of the present, when the unexpected spectacle ended.

      PLATE OF THE DAY

The old capoeirista told to the reporter of DIÁRIO CARIOCA that these exhibitions are daily in the bahian capital, forming one of the main touristic attractions, which is undertaken by the Sport Centre of Capoeira Angola, with its headquarters on Largo do Pelourinho which is frequented also by the bahian high society.

      CAPOEIRISTAS

Yesterday's group, besides "Pastinha", is made of capoeiristas João Bastista, João de Oliveira, João Pereira, Almiro Honorato and José Feliciano. "These boys - affirms the chief of the delegation - are some of the best capoeiristas of Bahia".

When the Centre shows itself on the Palmeiras Market, in Cairu Square and in other places in Salvador, its

demonstrations are free, because for this they receive subsidy from the Department of Tourism of Bahia. But in an enclosure they are well paid - explained "Pastinha".

      „ANGOLA“

According to Pastinha, "angola" is the rhythm used in the demonstrations of capoeira. To play it are only necessary the berimbau (an instrument of a wire attached to a straight stick), the pandeiro and reco-reco. The songs are about african motifs and one of the most known is "canjuquinha".

      IN PÔRTO ALEGRE

The party of bahian folklore, in Porto Alegre, promoted by the Department of Tourism of Bahia, will end on 16th of the current month.

The Department already sent to Porto Alegre numerous typical Bahia objects to be put on an exhibition. Documentary films are shown and a series of conferences will be organized about the things and customs of the City of Salvador. Tomorrow, a group of girls from the bahian society should be passing by Rio. They are also going to be participating in the festivities in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

BAHIAN CAPOEIRISTAS ON COURSE TO PORTO ALEGRE
      Última Hora, RJ

      - the hall of Santos Dumont Airport was yesterday evening a stage for a quick show, one on which the authentic bahian capoeiristas, in transit to Porto Alegre, demonstrated their abilities little known by the natives of Rio. Before a little crowd, Mestre Pastinha, as is knwown the oldest capoeirista of Bahia and his disciples João Pereira, Antônio Santos, Vivaldo Rocha, Espírito Santo, Fransisco de Assis and „Canjiquinha“, supplied with diverse percussion instruments, executed typical numbers of bahian "folklore". Angolinha, São Bento Grande and Pequeno and Santa Maria, accompanied by authentic rhythms were marvelously executed, outstanding among the capoeiristas, Mestre Pastinha who with his 70 years gave an impressive demonstration of mobility. Today, in Porto Alegre, where they went yesterday, at 16.30, the "kings" of capoeira should be present in the inauguration of an exposition of bahian motifs, where will appear (figureheads of river crafts, handmade statues and other objects of bahian art), looking to propagate and spread the folklore of the Senhor do Bonfim land. Also ten girls of bahian society should be passing today by Rio, in transit to Porto Alegre. They will give a feminine touch. In the foto above, Mestre Pastinha "faces" a young capoeirista in the airport lobby.
