«I've been in the capoeira world since 1945 practicing, I was born in 1934, in 1946 I started to learn capoeira with the late Bugalho on the Mercado Modelo ramp [..]
[..] I lived there on the Mercado Modelo ramp, when I came I worked in a tent of the late Senhora, and she is a mãe de santo and there I saw the late guy play the berimbau when I returned I heard the beautiful sound since at that time he was playing a berra boi, later he started to play a violinha and there I him play and who well he played, Mr Bugalho had one eye, huge, and I saw the movements others made on the square feasts, where I continued to play capoeira.
[..] he taught me to play the berimbau, what he taught, he said look are you seeing how that game goes, do the same movement, so you were always looking!»
