The ABC of Pelé da Bomba

1934 - Was born on 25th December in the district of Cipoá in the municipality of Governor Mangabeira, Bahia, son of Cosme Neves and mrs Isaura.
1946 - Started to learn capoeira 12 years old with M Bugalho in the ramp of the old Mercado Modelo.
1958 - Was reknown as mestre.
1959 - Starte to give classes in the Army in the Companhia do QG region.
1964 - In January appears on the photos and in a video of H. Rautavaara of the (Fat Monday) feast in Ribeira.
1966 - Started to give classes in the Firemen Quarters and also in the Military Police.
1981 - Stopped to give classes due to a sickness returning around 20 years later to an invitation of the ABCA.
2003 - Participated in the recording of the CD Lenço de Seda - Antologia de Ladainhas e Corridos (listen above).
2010 - Launched his book O Pelé da capoeira.
M Pelé da Bomba recorded 3 CD-s, 2 DVD-s and is currently the president of the ABCA.

About the Old Masters:

«[Besouro's] first contact with the world of capoeira took place with an old african called Alípio, who was a captive in the Pantaleão Mill. When planting sugarcane, the student heard and learned from the old man the teachings of capoeira. Uncle Alípio was a Babalawo [candomblé priest] and had been a slave when young, a son of a black woman who was brought in a ship from the port of São Jorge da Mina in Dahomey [Benin].»

«That time there was a group [in São Braz]: it was me, Messias [M Messias, born in 1929], Zinho, Genesio, Lao, Tomazinho, Jaime, Chumbinho [..] So we had this group of boys who were all 16, 15-16 years old. And we used to get together on Saturdays and Sundays to do this capoeira. And Léo was the mestre.»
