Information about the photos
The collection of Marcel Gautherot's capoeira photos at the Fat Monday in Ribeira supposedly made in 1955 consists of at least 11 photos of high quality*.
The photos with the codes 010BARI17235 to 010BARI17245 (a total of 11 photos) were made on Ribeira's seafront, Salvador.
There are more photos of the feast that don't show capoeira. On some photos one can see a hill over the Itapajipe Bay.
* Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS) until now has only published 4 photos of lesser quality, that can be seen below.
9 more photos or parts of photos from the same place we have managed to find in the internet. Probably IMS hasn't scanned them yet. You can see them below.
Among participants we identify M Waldemar, M Gigante, possibly M Zeca do Uruguai and according to M Angoleiro (J. Bamberg) also: Cabrinha, Badá, Alfrêdo-galo, Naval-da-quadrada, Zé-bigode, Canoeiro, Zé-cabêça de lenço, Queixada, Miúdo ou Expedito, M Zacarias e M Daniel-engraxate.
The dating of the photos by IMS is a little problematic. There is no other information about the photos beside the codes starting with 010BARI. The dating by IMS is varying from 1955 to 1958. Velhosmestres.com is proposing that all the photos were made in January 1955.
