M Pastinha took CECA to Bigode
    1949

Mestre Pastinha in a place called "Bigode", in Matatu de Brotas, showing capoeiristas like Clarea [see photos below] and the proper Mestre Pastinha, among other - 42 photos.

[..] we came to the conclusion that the photos of Mestre Pastinha only could have been made in the pre-1950 period and managed to find the place, which in the old days was called "Bigode", close to the extinct soap factory Sicool, which was mentioned by Pastinha (see DECÂNIO, idem) and in the book by João Pequeno (LIMA, 2000, p.7).

"Bigode", in the region of the old Sangradouro, is situated in the present Santo Agostinho neighborhood, between Av. Djalma Dutra, close to the Sete Portas supermarket, and Av. Barros Falcão, in Matutu, which is known more commonly as Matatu Pequeno, part of the Broras neighborhood.

PS It's probable, that P. Verger took these photos in 1952 as also suggested by M Gildo Alfinete with a date on one of the photos. As M Pastinha moved to Bigode only in 1949, perhaps it took him a few years to establish himself there (build the arena, make uniforms etc).

    • 1949 I was searched by Mr Ricardo, the ex-instructor of the Civil Guard fight, so that I would reorganize the capoeira Center that was without purpose. I was always ready when they looked for me, I was at home, on a Sunday, when two comrades came to invite me to see a place in Soap Fabric Siccol in Bigode, and I took capoeira there, and the Center entered

    • on a path, because Pastinha thought to take capoeira to its exact value; with the help of the habitants, and all were on my side to encourage me to make this desired thing. The first shirts were done in Bigode, with black and gold colors. The first president was Mr Athaydio Caldeira, the second, Mr Arrelydio Caldeira.
