He's known in the capoeira Angola roda as Bigodinho, in the capoeira Regional rodas as Gigante and by the oldest as Pequenininho. He started capoeira in a backyard in Barra, with Mestre Cobrinha Verde and later was mestre Pastinha's student. He "changed the party" going to mestre Bimba's academy. He was Menino Gordo's buddy (often mistaken with him as he looked alike) and started to teach in the Seminário Central, later moving to his Academy “Capoeira São Gonçalo”, with headquarters on Rodrigues Ferreira street 226, in Federação. Assiduously going to rodas in Lar das Pombas (on Sundays) and in Barra, in Jardim Baiano, Mestre Bigodinho has in his catalogue the creation of a berimbau rhythm called “Cinco Salomão”, which he says is for the "miudinho game, low, the miudinho game on the ground, only low". Besides having participated in the film "the Bandits" and being an excellent story-singer, Mestre Gigante, as a good and passionate serenade singer, doesn't reject a good guitar to sing and recall the adventures of the past.
